2025 Color of the year

Pantone’s color of 2025: Mocha Mousse!

According to Pantone’s announcement, Mocha Mousse “captures a global mood of connection, comfort, and harmony.”

I love this quote from ED of the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, “Sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic.”

“It can stand alone or serve as a versatile foundation, enhancing a wide range of palettes and applications—from minimalist to richly detailed designs”

We’ll be seeing it in all realms of style: interiors, fashion, nails, makeup, and more.

But let’s talk about two of my favorite colorful places: interiors and wardrobes.

INTERIOR

The cool thing with the color of the year, is that even though it can fuel trends, I view it more as inspiration. I mean think about it – last year’s color of the year was fuzzy peach, and did we see everything turn peach? No. But it gets the creative juices flowing of how we can experiment with different colors in our lives.

So if you like this Mocha Mousse color and are thinking about introducing it into your home space, I would recommend first reflecting (and of course looking for inspiration) before making any purchases.

Start by asking yourself, “if I still have this color in my home in 3 years, will I still love it? 5 years? 10 years?”

That answer will help determine how big your budget should be on this color.

If you’re unsure that you’ll still love the color in 3 years, then choose one or a few small accents that are easily removable from a room.

If you think you’ll love it 10+ years and maybe it’s the color you haven’t been able to put your finger on or would solve all your decorating dilemmas by finally tying a room together, then you should feel confident making a bigger investment in the color.

Once you determine that, figure out your vibe that you want this color to bring to your home:

  • Bold
  • Energetic
  • Calming
  • Subtle
  • Neutral
  • Enveloping
  • Accents

WARDROBE

Are we that surprised? We all knew that browns and reds (burgundy) were hugely on the rise in fall of 2024 and moving into 2025.

We’re expected to see some earthy styles this year.

Firstly in earthy hues like browns, earthy reds, greens, etc.

And secondly, boho style is back baby (which is a very earthy style)!

Mocha may not be the best brown for every color season, but using it as a basis and adjusting your brown from there is a good way to see what works best in the different palettes, and different colors to pair it with.

SPRINGS

Lean into the warm, coppery brown. Below are a few different color combinations you could use with your brown, depending on your aesthetic.

SUMMERS

Mocha is a great brown for you. It’s soft and can be cool. Cool chocolatey browns will be perfect on you. The color pairings below offer some options that don’t have too high of contrast, as that’s not typically what looks best on summers.

AUTUMNS

This is your time to shine because your palette has the most brown. Mocha is soft and can also be warm. Lean into coppery brown and choose darker shades. As you can see with the color pairings below, Autumns will shine in any earthy trend.

WINTERS

You should also stick to cool browns, but you could go brighter in the color, and also darker. However, winters’ go-to dark neutral should be black, so brown is barely in the the color palette. If you want a brown in your wardrobe, maybe venture into red-brown, like a dark burgundy.
