Leaving grayscale paint colors in 2023

According to the color expert herself, Maria Killam says the 4 Paint Colours that are Going out of Style in 2024 are all on the grayscale:

  • Gray
  • Off-white
  • Stark white
  • Black

Even though black and white is a more classic and timeless look, we’ve truly overdone it in recent years to the point where it’s become a trend.

You can tell the most trendy is when black is overdone.

Black is bold, dramatic, and potent, and is therefore the most obvious color to the eye, making it easier to identify as a trend. So if you’re buying a house in five years from now, and you see a black shiplap and/or board and batten accent wall, you’ll most likely know it’s backstory: a trendy DIY project in the COVID times … get your buckets and buckets of primer now.

So what paint trends will we see in 2024 instead?

Say goodbye to grayscale and hello to COLOR!

You may have noticed more color coming into fashion in recent years. Well, interiors typically follow fashion trends. Interiors just take a little longer to turn than fashion.

We’ll specifically be seeing a lot of blue – light and bright blues.

Similar to how white and black can be a classic/timeless interior color scheme, blue too is always relevant since it’s so well-liked.

Blue and green are pretty universally-liked colors.

According to emotional color theory, blue is:

  • Calming, peaceful
  • Optimistic
  • Fresh
  • Gracious

And green is:

  • Harmonious
  • Hopeful
  • Soothing, nurturing, healing
  • Natural

Who doesn’t want to feel these non-polarizing emotions?

It only makes sense why these are the colors most are drawn to and many want to live in.

I think as people venture back into color, it makes sense for blue to be the go-to color coming out of the black and white trend. It feels like a trusty color to start with and build confidence as we venture back into ROYGBIV🌈

But if you’re ready to be bold and create beautiful, opinionated rooms, then by all means have at it!!
